Product Description

Interestingly enough, this design transformed the most over the years. The final design emerged as three crowns of all transparent petals. With a total of twenty-six glass petals, it is the “heaviest” flower of the collection. Acceptance is the gateway into self-mastery, nurtured by all other virtues of creation.

The Flower of Acceptance is presented on a star shaped brass support, decorated with hand marquetry and a twisted wire. The support elevates the flower 2,5 cm above the surface (included in the height).

The transparent glass represent our full acceptance of the present moment. Detached from our human conditionings, we no longer re-act to any outside happening. Instead, it passes through us, as if we became transparent for it. From a place of acceptance, we’re able to respond and obtain response-ability.

Handmade in Marrakesh

The flowers are co-created in close collaboration with independent artisan ateliers in Marrakesh. All the different traditional techniques are integrated through-out the collection. The final touch,  tuning and quality control is done in-house at the Sakura Living atelier.

Materials used (sourced locally):

Glass: only the uncommon first quality glass is used. It is available in bleu, red, green and amber. Besides the clear glass, stained or structured glass is used. This stained glass perfectly lends itself to represent our human conditioning.

Brass (alloy of Copper and Zinc): all of the metal used for the petals, the glass enclosures and the hummingbird is solid brass. After polishing, all of the brass is aged to give it the authentic look and feel. For the Flowers of Clarity and Courage, maillechort is used (alloy of copper, zinc and nickel) to provide for a silver look.

Traditional artisanal techniques:

Different brass techniques and finishes integrate all of the tradition into the collection. All the glass is cut by hand and rounded with a set of small pliers. The techniques showcased are hammered brass, marquetry and cuttings with a chisel and a hand saw. The brass elements are merged by flame or soldered together with a simple tool heated above a gas fire.

Every crown of petals is mounted on a solid brass ring, providing good alignment and stability for the hummingbird. True lightness can only manifest on a strong foundation. The alignment of the hummingbird can be slightly altered to personal likings.

As each element of these flowers is fully handmade, slight variations might appeal in height and weight. We use different colors of insets for the hummingbird’s eyes.

Many hands participated in the co-creation of each flower. All of this diversity combined results in unique expressions of light. A true celebration of our human nature.

Maintenance & Care

Our exceptional attention for detail, results in a maintenance free artistic interior decoration that is fully hand-made.

After polishing and “aging” all of the brass elements, the different crowns of petals are spray finished with a high transparency varnish. This protects the brass from oxidation and any penetrating moist, without compromising on the glass transparency. This finish also protects all of the artisanal craftsmanship.

In dusty environments, the individual crowns of petals can be cleaned with a dry cloth, as you would clean a pair of sun glasses.

Moroccan Glass

Glassmaking in Morocco dates back from the 8th century, influenced by Moorish, Andalusian, and Berber traditions. Artisans mastered techniques of blowing, coloring, and engraving, creating pieces for mosques, palaces, and homes.

Passed down through generations, this craft blends function with beauty, preserving a luminous heritage that continues to shine in Morocco’s vibrant artisan culture.

Traditional Brass Techniques

The artisans of Marrakesh master diverse brass techniques; hand-chiseling intricate motifs, engraving fine patterns, and applying delicate marquetry with the simplest of tools.

Hammering, piercing, adding depth and texture, while polishing reveals a golden warmth. Each method reflects a rich heritage of precision, patience, and poetic expression through brass.
